Efficacy of Heel Warming on Pain Response to Heel Stick in Neonates

چکیده

Introduction: Heel prick is one of the commonest procedures carried out in hospitalised newborns. Pain a subjective experience for which neonates, infants and children respond with behavioural reactions. Applying hot pack to skin surface causes proximal blood vessels dilate due raised temperature may decrease pain perception neonates. We intended study effect heel warming during neonates.
Method: An experimental was conducted among neonates admitted paediatric wards BPKIHS. Total 92 participants undergoing prick/stick were selected by consecutive sampling technique allocated randomly group control group. Warmer applied baby three five minutes provided baby’s warmth 38°C 40°C prior stick only. Newborn’s level assessed both through The Neonatal Infant Scale (NIPS). Mann Whitney test used compare means score between groups.
Results: mean 1.39 2.20. Experimental showed significantly lower (p < 0.001) compared Application before caused reduction pain.
Conclusions: findings suggest that heat application effective reducing newborns.

Effects of Yakson Therapeutic Touch and Heel Warming on Pain Caused by Heel Stick Procedure, Vital Signs, and Cry Duration in Full-term Neonates

Background: Neonates are more sensitive to pain and likely to suffer from its long-term complications. Therefore, various methods including non-nutritive sucking, sensory stimulations, and various supportive interventions are employed to relieve pain in newborns. Aim: This study aimed to compare the effects of Yakson therapeutic touch and heel warming on pain caused by heel stick procedure, vit...

Pain reduction of heel stick in neonates: Yakson compared to non-nutritive sucking.

The purpose of this study was to test the effect of Yakson (i.e. a traditional Korean touching method) and non-nutritive sucking (NNS) on reducing the pain that neonates experience when undergoing the heel stick procedure for blood testing. Ninety-nine healthy neonates were recruited and assigned into three groups: Yakson (n = 33), NNS (n = 33), and control group (n = 33). Each intervention was...

Management of pain from heel stick in neonates: an analysis of research conducted in Thailand.

The heel stick procedure is the most common painful procedure performed in preterm and full-term neonates. Various nonpharmacologic interventions have been used for pain relief. However, the magnitude of the effect of different interventions has received little attention. In this study, 4 eligible studies conducted in Thailand, focusing on the effects of interventions on pain responses to heel ...

The heel pad in plantar heel pain.

A study of heel-pad thickness and compressibility using lateral radiographs, loaded and unloaded by body-weight, was carried out on 70 patients with plantar heel pain and 200 normal subjects. The heel-pad thickness and the compressibility index (resistance to compression) were greater in the patients than in normal subjects and significantly increased with age. In normal subjects, the thickness...

Kangaroo Care modifies preterm infant heart rate variability in response to heel stick pain: pilot study.

BACKGROUND Heel stick is the most common painful procedure for preterm infants in neonatal intensive care units. Resultant pain causes adverse physiological effects in major organ systems. Kangaroo Care (KC), involving mother-infant skin-to-skin contact is a promising analgesic for infant pain; however, the effect of KC on the autonomic nervous system's response to pain is unknown. AIM To det...
